Insurance today is complicated and often executed in a vacuum, without technology-driven data and insights. AI and ML are non-existent. Further, there is a disconnect between how companies underwrite and sell solutions to the front-end of the insurance stack, as compared to the heavy operational controls in the middle- and back-offices. But a digital transformation is underway! Insurance represented 13% of fintech deal funding in 2017, up from just 5% in 2014, and investor activity has nearly tripled in volume and deal count.
