What's Next for Payments? Look Abroad

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

While the future of payments is the subject of great debate, one thing is certain--if we want to know more about the future, we have to take a global view. Europe, in particular, has been a payments pioneer, from real-time settlements and contactless cards to EMV and PSD2. Taavet Hinrikus has scaled two of the most successful European tech companies--first as an early employee of Skype, and now as co-founder of TransferWise, an international money transfer service valued at $1.6 billion. As an entrepreneur, angel investor in more than forty European startups, and member of the European Innovation Council's High Level Group of Innovators, Hinrikus is helping Europe lead the next wave of payments innovation. In this session, he shares what the U.S. banking sector can learn from the European tech boom and how the current geopolitical climates may come into play in the U.S., the UK, and beyond.
