Emmalyn Shaw is a partner at Omidyar Network, where she co-manages the firm's Financial Inclusion initiative, leading US venture investments in innovative technologies that promote financial heatlh and inclusion. Emmalyn has spent nearly 20 years in venture capital and impact investing across both early and growth-stage funds ranging from $200 million to $2.6 billion. She joined Omidyar Network in 2016 to lead investment management for Emerging Tech and Financial Inclusion investments, including company evaluation, selection, and ongoing portfolio management. Prior to Omidyar Network, Emmalyn spent eight years in venture partner roles, making both early and growth stage investments at Oak Investment Partners, deploying over $150M of capital in consumer internet and digital media investments, including Bleacher Report (acquired by Turner), Demand Media (NYSE: DMD), Huffington Post (acquired by AOL) and Thrillist Media. Before Oak, Emmalyn spent eight years in venture at VantagePoint Venture Partners and The Barksdale Group, where she invested in early stage enterprise software and consumer internet, including Intermix/mySpace (acquired by Fox) and TellMe Networks (acquired by MSFT). Prior to that, she was an investment banker in Morgan Stanley’s Corporate Finance Technology group. Emmalyn began her career as a product manager for MSCI Barra, a leading portfolio analytics software company. Emmalyn is a frequent guest speaker for classes in entrepreneurship and venture capital at Stanford University, Wharton West, and University of California at Berkeley. She is currently a member of San Francisco World President Organization (WPO) and a long-time board member and former President of the Woodside School Foundation. Emmalyn holds an MBA from The Wharton School of Business, and a B.A. in Economics with minors in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
